glock g45 magazine

Glock G45 Magazine - If you want a short review of the Glock 45, I can sum it up in one sentence; "It shoots like a Glock."

I carried Glocks professionally for 15 years in uniform and off duty. I don't know how many rounds this equates to. I filmed them in both instructor level and operator level courses. I shot them in the game. I shot almost all styles in .45 and 9mm as well as some .40 black and white versions. When I say the Glock 45 shoots like a Glock, I mean it's very reliable and consistent.

The Glock 45 is essentially a slightly upgraded Glock 19x. I say "upgrade" because the feature set on the G19x caused some issues that the 45 fixed. The first problem is that it's only available in "Coyote" color. While it's a very attractive finish, I prefer the black pistol for LE livery work and anything other than crawling around in the dirt. The pistol had to match the officer's uniform, and not many departments were interested in swapping black service gear for brown pistols.

The second issue is the stupid lips on the front of the magazine well. I realized that if you have really big hands, lips can protect you from magazines. However, this is fairly rare with Glock 17 length grips. The lip is there to prevent any newer 5th gen magazines from sitting in the pistol thanks to the redesigned bottom plate. The new magazine is backwards compatible with previous generation pistols, but not the G19x.

The Glock 45 inherits the G19-length sleeve and G17-length grip arrangement from the G19x and dips it in an appropriate black finish. The Glock 45 also forgoes the lip on the magazine well and inherits the flared magazine well from other 5th generation pistols. Internal components are the same as the Glock 19x.

This list of changes piqued my interest but didn't really drive me to buy a Glock 45. It was the front sprocket that finally won me over. It's a very simple thing to do, but it's a feature that I find very useful.

I did a lot of dry fire training. The forward ratchet teeth make loading the pistol a more efficient operation. Forward serrations make stress testing simpler and less likely to eject bullets. Regardless of your attitude toward the frequency of press censorship, carrying a gun for a living is a fact of life. Finally, on the playing field, sometimes you have to pick up a chambered pistol and load it to the clock. Swiping circularly in the front improves movement efficiency and saves shooting time. I'm glad to see this feature is now an update to the rest of the 5th generation Glock pistols.

My interest rose to a desire to get a Glock 45. When our local store called to say they had it in stock, I rushed to check it out. When I hold it in my hand, it feels like my Glock 17 Gen 5. That feeling was confirmed when I pulled the trigger. The front teeth felt perfect and did exactly what I expected.

Last check was when I put the Glock 45 in the holster in place of the Glock 19 I was carrying and it fit perfectly. The G45 snaps right into my appendix holster and now gives me a full size grip and 17 round mags without compromising comfort. The T.Rex Arms Sidecar Holster retracts the grips into place. Less chance of paper jams and exactly the same level of comfort when seated as my Glock 19. I am sold.

It is good practice to have a live-fire proof of any pistol that will be used in a defensive capability. But doing a reliability check on a 9mm Glock is pretty much a waste of ammo. Still, when I bought the Glock 45, I threw in a 1000 round Blazer 115gr FMJ 9mm.

I recruited two friends and a bunch of different factory Gen 4 and Gen 5 magazines, as well as various Magpul GL-9 magazines. Between the three of us, we filmed back-to-back practice sessions with the G45 until we got smoked. It soon became apparent that gloves were necessary. Thanks to the polymer frame, we could still fire the pistol freehand, but maneuvering the slide became less comfortable.

Without a drop of lube, the Glock 45 runs like a champ. It went on and on through countless "Bill Drills" and magazine changes. The only "glitch" we encountered was a failure to lock an empty magazine. This has entered the testing cycle and may have been caused by the shooter pushing the slide stop with a glove.

I did a couple of "sleepy wrist" exercises towards the end of the ammo box. The G45 still only loops with the middle finger and thumb. Holding on to the frame near the bottom of the magazine can lead to errors, but this is not uncommon in recoil pistols.

I generally don't test Glock pistols for accuracy. Every Glock I've picked up has been able to get a one-hole group at defensive engagement range. Hitting the upper body wasn't an issue when we stretched them out to 100 yards. The Glock 45 does come with a Glock "shooter" barrel. This new barrel uses a hybrid of the Glock's Polygon rifle and the standard rifle.

A thousand rounds isn't a tough test for a proper combat pistol, but it taught us pretty quickly that the Glock 45 will last a lifetime for most shooters. While we used full metal-cased practice ammo for this test to save money, it's wise to use at least one box of your favorite defensive rounds before loading up and heading out. We found Federal Hydra shock and Federal HSP in 147gr. or 124 grams. Variety for 9mm Glock pistols.

The Glock 45 performed exactly as expected. It is reliable and good value in the defensive pistol market. The real question is whether the pistol lives up to the expectations of potential buyers.

Competition shooters will be better served by the G34 Gen 5. Swing tines (on the M.O.S. version) and magazine flares would be useful, keep them in the production department. The extended aiming radius of the G34 is valuable in situations where the use of optics is not permitted.

The average armed citizen may find the G19 Gen 5 a better everyday carry. The shorter grip is still long enough for a full fire grip for most adults. Short shifts allow for wider concealment options and a more comfortable sitting position. The Glock 19th Generation 5 M.O.S. also offers front swing teeth and the ability to add optics. This is becoming more and more common on pistols.

Glock 45 appears to be an option aimed directly at law enforcement. The longer grip accommodates a wider range of hand sizes than the Glock 19. Slip length is not important when considering a service holster, but it is for detective or undercover duty. Finally, the Glock 45 is a pistol that can be removed from a service holster and is equally comfortable in off-duty gear.

My Glock 45 will find a spot in my regular range and practice the spin. It probably won't replace my Glock 19 as my everyday pistol, but if my department accepts it, I have no problem using it while on duty. Glock Factory Made Magazines deliver dependable feed and legendary durability to help Glock pistols perform in any condition.

Glock magazines are constructed of a steel inner slide surrounded by an impact-resistant polymer outer shell, in addition to having numbered witness holes to confirm the number of rounds in the magazine.

Glock’s Gen 5 pistols come with upgraded magazines—in addition to the softly rounded bottom plate, the Gen 5 magazines feature bright orange magazines for faster and accurate identification of empty magazines. Like all previous Glock magazines, Gen 5 magazines are still backwards compatible with previous generations of Glock pistols.

PLEASE NOTE: As with all Glock 9mm double stack magazines, smaller capacity pistols will accept higher capacity mags, but not vice versa (i.e. the 17 round capacity G17 will accept 24 and 33 round mags, But it won't be a 15-round magazine).
